Arrhythmia

A disorder of the heart rate or heart rhythm, such as beating too fast (tachycardia), too slow (bradycardia), or irregularly. Symptoms include heart palpitations, skipping beats, fainting, light-headedness or dizziness, chest pain, shortness of breath, skipping beats, paleness, sweating and cardiac arrest. Diagnostic tests and exams include an ECG, coronary angiography, echocardiogram, ambulatory cardiac monitoring or an electrophysiology study. Treatment may include electrical shock therapy, implanting a temporary pacemaker, anti-arrhythmic drugs or an ICD.
