Bariatric Surgery
Also known as weight loss surgery, anti-obesity or obesity surgery, bariatric surgery is a procedure performed in order to help an individual lose weight. In gastric bypass surgery, the stomach is made smaller and the gastrointestinal tract is altered so that food can bypass certain parts of the intestine. The procedure results in decreased stomach capacity and interference with calorie absorption, resulting in weight loss.
