Bunions
A structural deformity of the bones and the joint between the foot and big toe, usually very painful. Bunions are often caused by narrow-toed, high-heeled shoes which compress the big toe and push it toward the second toe. Symptoms include red, calloused skin along the foot at the base of the big toe; a bony bump at the site; pain over the joint, aggravated by pressure from shoes and a big toe that is turned toward the other toes. Treatments include orthotics and surgery.
