Cardiac Catheter
A procedure done on the heart in which a cardiologist inserts a thin, plastic tube into an artery or vein in the arm or leg. From there, it can be advanced into the chambers of the heart or into the coronary arteries. A cardiac catheter measures the blood pressure within the heart and how much oxygen is in the blood. The procedure is done to obtain diagnostic information about the heart or its blood vessels or to provide treatment in certain types of heart conditions.
