Congestive Heart Failure

A condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood to the body’s other organs. Congestive heart failure can result from coronary artery disease; past heart attack with scar tissue that interferes with the heart muscle’s normal work; high blood pressure; heart valve disease due to past rheumatic fever; heart defects present at birth; and infection of the heart valves. Diagnostic tests and exams include a ECG, chest X-Ray, echocardiogram, cardiac catheterization, angiography, biopsy of the heart tissue or a brain natriuretic peptide level test.
