Crohn’s Disease
An ongoing disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive tract, also referred to as the gastrointestinal tract. Crohn’s disease can affect any area of the GI tract, from the mouth to the anus, but it commonly affects the lower part of the small intestine. Swelling extended deep into the lining of the affected organ causing pain. Other common symptoms include abdominal pain, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, weight loss, arthritis, skin problems and fever. Diagnostic tests and exams for Crohn’s Disease include blood tests, stool sampling, sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy. Treatments may include drugs, nutrition supplements and/or surgery.
