Herniated Disc

A herniated nucleus pulposus is a slipped disc along the spinal cord. The condition occurs when all or part of the soft center of a spinal disc is forced through a weakened part of the disc. The herniated disc could be a lumbar disc or a cervical disc. Symptoms vary, depending on the disc. Diagnostic exams and tests include spinal X-Rays, spine MRI or CT, myelogram, EMG, or nerve conduction velocity test. Treatment options include rest, medications like NSAIDs, lifestyle changes, steroid injections and surgery.
