Idiopathic Short Stature
Refers to extreme short stature that does not have a diagnostic explanation. The term is used to describe children or adolescents who are growing poorly, but who have no measurable abnormality in their natural levels of growth hormone. Children diagnosed with idiopathic short stature must have other examinations that exclude other causes associated with short stature. Treatment includes the use of insulin-like growth factor or aromatase inhibitors and growth hormone.
