Laparoscopy
A type of gastric bypass surgery that uses a laparoscope, a less-invasive technique that allows surgeons to make smaller incisions, lowering the risk of large scars and hernias. The operation creates a small pouch in the upper part of the stomach with a controlled and adjustable stoma, without stapling, that limits food intake. Lap band surgery is not recommended for patients weighing over 350 pounds. Others who have had past abdominal surgery may also not be candidates, due to scar tissue.
