Lung Transplant
A surgical procedure to replace one or both diseased lungs with healthy lungs from a human donor. A lung transplant is usually the last resort treatment for lung failure. Some cases of lung failure that could require a lung transplant include patients with emphysema, cystic fibrosis, sarcoidosis or idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. It is not recommended for patients with serious illnesses, such as reduced kidney or liver function.
