Pannus
The medical term for a hanging flap of tissue. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis form pannus tissue at the joint affected by the disease, causing loss of bone or cartilage. A pannus can be a result of loose hanging tissues after pregnancy or weight loss. It can also be a result of obesity. The extra tissue of a hanging pannus can make personal hygiene difficult as skin conditions, such as yeast infections, are common problems.
