Plantar Fasciitis

The irritation and swelling of the thick tissue on the bottom of the foot. Causes include foot arch problems, obesity, running, sudden weight gain and a tight achilles tendon. Symptoms include pain at the bottom of the heel, usually worst in the morning and improving throughout the day. Diagnostic exams and tests include X-rays and physical exams. Treatment options include icing, anti-inflammatory medications, heel stretching exercises, night splints, shoe inserts and physical therapy.
