Quality Improvement Organization
An organization that monitors the appropriateness, effectiveness and quality of care provided to Medicare beneficiaries. QIOs are private contractor extensions of the federal government that work under the auspices of the US Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. QIOs also help coordinate the facilitate the timely submission of data for public reporting of institution-specific quality measure performance information.
