RAST Testing

A type of allergy test used to determine the substances to which a person is allergic. RAST testing may also be used to determine if a group of symptoms is a true allergic reaction, which involves antibodies and histamine release. Other conditions which may be tested for using RAST testing include allergic rhinitis; allergy to mold, dander or dust; angioedema; contact dermatitis; and nasal obstruction. Abnormal results mean a person has an allergy to the tested substance.
