Rheumatoid Arthritis
RA is a long-term disease that causes inflammation of the joints and surrounding tissues. It can also affect other organs. RA usually develops over time with the following symptoms: morning stiffness; joint pain with warmth, swelling, tenderness and stiffness of the joint after inactivity; limited range of motion in the affected joints; fatigue; low grade fever; and small, round, firm bumps under the skin. Diagnosis can be difficult but can be done with thorough a medical history, physical examination, blood tests, X-Rays and aspiration. Treatment is usually a life-long practice that includes medications, physical therapy, education and possible surgery. Treatment is aimed at relieving symptoms and preserving joint function.
