Scoliosis
The curving of the spine. General causes of scoliosis are congenital defects; neuromuscular problems such as paralysis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, or polio; and idiopathic scoliosis. Symptoms include backaches or lower back pain, fatigue, uneven shoulders or hips, and abnormal spine curvature. Diagnostic tests and exams include scoliometer measurements, spine X-Rays, and MRI. Treatment depends on the cause of the scoliosis, the size and location or the curve and how much more growing the patient is expected to do. Treatment options include braces and surgery.
