State Children's Health Insurance Program

The State Children’s Health Insurance Program promises the availability of health insurance for children with no insurance or for children from low-income families. It operates as part of a state’s Medicaid program. Through SCHIP, each state is permitted to offer health insurance for children, up to the age of 19, who are not already insured. SCHIP is a state administered program and each state sets its own guidelines regarding eligibility and services.
