Varicose Veins

Swollen, twisted and painful veins that are filled with an abnormal collection of blood. Symptoms include pain in the legs, associated with fullness, heaviness and aching; visible, enlarged veins; mild swelling of ankles; discolored brown skin at the ankle; and skin ulcers near the ankle. Diagnosis is based primarily on the characteristic appearance of the legs when the patient is sitting or standing. Treatment options include conservative rest, vein stripping and sclerotherapy of the veins.
