Vitiligo

A skin condition in which there is a loss of pigment from area, resulting in irregular white skin patches that feel like normal skin. Vitiligo is associated with pernicious anemia, hyperthyroidism and Addison’s disease. It frequently affects the face, elbows and knees, hands and feet, and genitalia. Examination is usually sufficient to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment options include exposure to intense ultraviolet light, oral medication, skin creams, skin grafts and, in extreme cases, skin depigmentation.
