Trial for Lupus Boosts Treatment Plan
As reported in the New York Times
The results of the latest study on lupus treatment is an excellent example of the benefits and importance of evidence-based medicine.
A new medicine, called Bylesta, has proved effective in a large clinical trial. This success could pave the way for approval of the first new treatment for lupus, a success which hasn't occurred in over 40 years.
Despite the success, the article reports that there are caveats to the trial's announcment. For example, the results have not yet been published or subjected to scrutiny by independent experts. In essence the drug makers, Human Genome Sciences, are at the stage where they must rely on peer evaluation to establish and rank whether the results are honest and the drug can indeed live up to its apparent abilities.
Using an independent review organization like AllMed is a sure-fire way to insure independent, unbiased and correct considerations and reviews of treatment plans.
