Tech Companies Push to Digitalize Patient Healthcare Records
Would you believe that both sides of the political gamut actually agree on one aspect of the healthcare reform debate? Believe it or not, but the push to digitalize personal health records is a bipartisan push that both sides are excitedly talking about.
What's more is that tech companies are backing the politico's agenda as well. Companies like Verizon, IBM, General Electric and even Dell are all vying for a piece of what could be a $19 billion pie.
Digital healthcare records are indeed a "modern tool" that can, as the New York Times reports, help curb costs. Cutting costs, like the push for digitalized personal healthcare records, is the bipartisan main catalyst for the current reform debate.
The push for digitalized records comes from a need for "new models of delivery and easier-to-use technology to reduce the expense and technical headaches. The proposed offerings are typically bets on the new Internet-based service model, known as cloud computing, in which much of the computer firepower and data reside in in remote data centers, which doctors, nurses and staff would use via the Web browsers on their personal computers."
