Update on swine flu vaccine

Officials reported on Friday that, as of yet, no side effects have been reported within the swine flu vaccine trial. The clinical trial began nearly three weeks ago on Aug. 7th. which focused on adults but will soon include children and pregnant women.

Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which is overseeing the trial, stated in the New York Times that there are no "red flag warnings" at this time.

In fact, the most common side effect reported by the adults who have received the vaccine is the typical sore arm.

The CDC believes that nearly 200 million swine flu vaccines could potentially be manufactured. The results of the total of 4,500 trial participants will help the CDC determine how many doses -- one or two -- they will recommend.
